Charges laid in fatal Humboldt Broncos bus crash

RCMP said an arrest was made Friday morning in relation to their investigation into the fatal collision.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League team was heading to Nipawin for a playoff game when the collision happened.

He is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Saskatchewan next week.

The head coach, bus driver, a trainer and the team announcer were among the 16 who were killed, 10 of the victims were players.

The 29-year-old semi driver in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash is facing 16 counts of risky driving causing death and 13 counts of unsafe driving causing bodily harm.

"Our investigators will continue to liaise with the Crown prosecutor's office as we have done so over the past three months", said RCMP Superintendent Derek Williams. Every piece of information was carefully examined.

Unsafe driving causing death carries a sentence of up to 14 years in Canada.

"Our organization has faith in the justice system and we will be watching closely as this court process plays out", the Broncos said in a statement Friday.

Singh said he was basically out of business after the crash because Alberta Transportation ordered his company, Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd., to keep its only other truck off the road.

Ryan Straschnitzki, 18, survived the crash but was paralyzed from the chest down.
