Anthony Bourdain reportedly leaves $1.2 million estate to young daughter

Anthony Bourdain

The bulk of the Parts Unknown host's $1.21 million estate is going to his 11-year-old daughter, Ariane Bourdain, according to Manhattan Surrogate Court documents, via the New York Daily News.

Bourdain's assets include $425,000 in cash and savings, $35,000 in a brokerage account, $250,000 and personal property and $500,000 in intangible property including royalties and residuals, according to the court papers.

Bourdain's will also reportedly indicates an outstanding $1 million mortgage, but doesn't specify the location of that property. Bourdain's estranged wife, Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, was chosen as the executor of his estate.

Bourdain's will also stipulated that Busia should receive his "personal and household effects" - including, as was specifically named, his frequent-flyer miles - "to dispose of in accordance with what (she) believes to have been my wishes".

Turns out, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain died rich.

The court will appoint a guardian ad litem to represent their daughter Ariane's interests, because she's a minor.

Bourdain's book "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly" (2000) was a New York Times bestseller.

His death resulted in an outpouring of grief and sorrow from his many fans, the food and media communities, and his girlfriend Asia Argento, who wrote on Twitter, "Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did".

In 2013, Peabody Award judges honoured Bourdain and "Parts Unknown" for "expanding our palates and horizons in equal measure". The show featured meals in both out-of-the-way restaurants and the homes of locals, providing what the magazine called "communion with a foreign culture so unmitigated that it feels practically intravenous". This is how I'll remember Tony.
