Sure, they may have some burning questions about it, but its success is confirmed by the box office numbers.

The flick opened Thursday with $11.5 million - almost double that of the first movie - but its Friday, Saturday and Sunday numbers didn't hold as high, which basically means a lot of the hard core fans went to see it Thursday night.

All thanks to an impressive debut pull of $76 million at the domestic box office, the Ant-Man sequel landed at the top spot among moviegoers, seeing an increase of 33% in comparison to the $57.32 million that the original film pulled in 2015.

"'Ant-Man and the Wasp' proves that at this point Marvel can seemingly do no wrong", said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore (SCOR).

Hence why Ant-Man and the Wasp opening less like a box office event is slightly underwhelming, especially given that this was the superhero movie that was supposed to most get a boost from post-Avengers hype.

Ant-Man and the Wasp received a "A-"CinemaScore from opening weekend audiences, just a notch down from the "A" for Ant-Man, and 55% of the overall audience was male while 58% of the overall audience was over the age of 25". All 20 films have opened No. 1 at the box office. Overseas, the movie made $85 million, bringing its worldwide total to $161 million.

Praise seems to be strong for "Ant-Man and the Wasp", which holds a promising 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Similar to Solo, Infinity War brought in just under $1 million, bringing its domestic box office total to $675 million. In three weeks, the dinosaur tentpole has earned US$333.3 million in North America. So far, Solo has made $380 million at the worldwide box office. Overseas, Incredibles 2 made $61 million, bringing its worldwide box office total to $268 million.

Elsewhere, Sony's Sicario: Day of the Soldado picked up another $7.3 million, taking the domestic tally to $35 million and rounding out the top 5. Another debut for the weekend is Roadside Attractions and Miramax's Whitney, which brought in $1.3 million from 452 locations for the 11th spot on the list.

The 2018 box office, which just hit US$6.5 billion, is up 9 per cent from past year, according to ComScore. Between the billion dollar grossing tallies for Infinity War and Marvel's Black Panther, plus the impressive $727 million worldwide total now posted by Fox's Deadpool 2, superhero movies have made up 57 percent of the total box office in 2018.
