Angelique Kerber stuns Serena Williams to win maiden Wimbledon title

Duchess of Sussex

The Reddit co-founder took to Instagram to pen an emotional tribute to Serena, saying that he couldn't be prouder of the tennis champion despite her loss in the women's final of Wimbledon on Saturday. Did we already mention the 23 Grand Slam titles?

The 27-year-old reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year and was ranked as high as fourth in the world immediately afterwards.

Kerber avenged her defeat against Williams in the 2016 Wimbledon title match, overwhelming the seven-time champion with a stunning 65-minute upset on Centre Court.

The couple announced the birth of daughter Olympia in September.

Serena has faced an onslaught of racism, misogynoir and body shaming throughout her entire career. "Also, with the experience she has, she is taking more experience into those matches to stay mentally calm". There is a conscious and constant campaign to dehumanise her and strip away her femininity in order to undermine her success.

And it will be no surprise who one of the royals will be cheering on - although she may need to hold back on the celebrations this time.

"We just wanted her to survive - 10 months later, she's in the #Wimbledon final".

Less than a year after giving birth, Serena Williams captivated the world this month as she soared to the Wimbledon final. "But the thing I took from her was her movement and that she hit a lot of balls back, but also with intent". Super-mum doesn't even cut it.

Serena's technique on the tennis court is a attractive thing to behold. How do you fight someone who has that much control over her serve? If Serena wins she'll be the fist mother to win the Grand Slam since Australian Evonne Goolagong Cawley in 1980.

Although Williams was on a 20-match winning run at Wimbledon and had lost only one set en route to the final, she was completely out of sorts, spraying wild ground-strokes wide time and again. This positive queen teaches us that we can be silly, fun and carefree while still getting results when it matters.
