More than 10 hours before the official launch of Prime Day 2018, Amazon is kicking things off with some epic savings on their Echo family of products. If Amazon's video content is enough of a draw, being a full Prime member only requires another $12 - which would pay for itself if you buy something where you need expedited shipping. This leaves other retailers in the unenviable position of having to offer deep discounts themselves, or their own "Black Friday in July" events, as we've seen from companies like Macy's (M), Target (TGT), and Best Buy (BBY), among others this summer. CNET's Dan Ackerman joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss what to expect from the big sale.
Shoppers will spend a collective $3.4 billion just on Amazon during the Prime Day promotion, up 42 percent from a year ago, according to Coresight Research. You can find deals on TVs, computers, earphones and so much more at these retailers. Besides this, customers get access to a few exclusive products as well and sometimes early access to Lightning Deals on Amazon.in.
Looks like Amazon wasn't primed for Prime Day this year. BestBlackFriday.com will be tracking prices on Monday and comparing them with Black Friday deals. Yes, it's officially the day where Amazon rewards those who have a Prime subscription with awesome deals all day.
While Amazon doesn't disclose sales figures for Prime Day, Deborah Weinswig, CEO of Coresight Research estimates it will generate $3.4 billion in sales worldwide, up from an estimated $2.4 billion a year ago.
