Amazon's Prime Day is off to a red hot start, despite glitches

It’s Prime Day — Here Are The Deals That Are Actually Worth It

The issues weren't limited to shopping.

Germany is the company's second biggest market after the US. Thousands of big companies rely on AWS to run their websites. It also said Amazon had refused to enter negotiations over the issues.

"The message is clear - while the online giant gets rich, it is saving money on the health of its workers", Stefanie Nutzenberger, a spokesman for the union representing the workers, said in a statement.

Not yet a member of Amazon Prime?

"Only (Amazon) will know the impact because the glitch affected their conversion rate, but probably not overall sales which were trending up anyway", she said in an email Tuesday.

Amazon itself hasn't disclosed specifics, but Feedvisor's estimates are based on results from its clients. "They're supposed to be the best company in the world from a retail and e-commerce standpoint", said Sucharita Kodali, an ecommerce analyst at Forrester.

At one stage there were 4,670 social media posts about the Prime Day crash. Prime Day is relentless. "The outage is especially problematic as many of Amazon's Prime deals are promoted for a set window of time - something that could cause a great deal of frustration for potential customers". And some shoppers reported not having any problems at all.

"We had a ruff start", Amazon said. However, if you have an Amazon student account you can enter the code Student15 at the checkout and get the priced reduced down to just £19.99.

"Way to go,". Just ask, "Alexa, what are my Prime Day deals?" You can see the full list on Amazon or check out some of our highlights below.

Hallelujah! Amazon Prime Day 2018 is finally here, and prices are being smashed all over the place. It's hoping to keep Prime attractive for current and would-be subscribers after raising the U.S. annual membership fee by 20 percent to $119 and to $12.99 for the month-to-month option.

In addition to the revenue made on the day itself, it's a marketing opportunity for Amazon, which is always trying to sign up new Prime Members.
