"Violently Changed Their Culture": Donald Trump On Migrants In Europe

Laura Bush, Melania Trump enter immigration debate

Hours after the smackdown from the ladies, President Trump defended the policy on a series of tweets on Monday morning, bringing in Germany and Europe into the debate and arguing that weak enforcement of immigration laws would endanger the United States.

Even though the statements suggest that the matter is an issue for Congress, Democratic lawmakers and others have pointed out that no law mandates the separation of children and parents at the border.

"You started getting more kids who were younger and had just recently been ripped from their parents". But in addition to removing children from apprehended illegal migrants, children have been separated from asylum-seekers.

In one instance, the DHS specifically claims that it "does not have a blanket policy of separating families at the border".

U.S. President Donald Trump holds a Make America Great Again rally at Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S., May 29, 2018. She called the Trump administration's policy immoral and cruel. The House is expected to vote on a GOP immigration measure later this week and a GOP aide said language curbing family separation will be added to the bill.

Bush wrote in The Washington Post on Sunday that the practice was "cruel" and "immoral".

Almost 2,000 children have been separated from their parents in the six week following the administration's announcement of a "zero-tolerance policy" against illegal border crossings.

Among the disturbing sounds heard on the recording was a child identified by ProPublica as a six-year-old girl from El Salvador begging authorities in Spanish to call her aunt to pick her up from the detention center.

"People on all sides agree that our immigration system isn't working, but the injustice of zero tolerance is not the answer", she writes. Her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said Sunday, "She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart".

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, in her role from 1977 to 1981, was the final one to voice her opinion when she released a statement on Monday that recalled her experience with Cambodian refugees fleeing to Thailand.

"This is probably the most inhumane thing I've ever seen", Walsh said. The Mormon church said it was "deeply troubled" by the separation of families and urged national leaders to find compassionate solutions. If he means what he says about family separation, Katko should attach a provision to the bill that bars the administration from doing it. The parents are taken into custody at a federal jail, while their children are put in the custody of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.

"You know they're coming in, they're people that came on merit, not based on a lottery or not people that snuck across the border".

Because she's a Texas native and lived through the Katrina debacle, Laura Bush's denunciation of the Trump policy is especially noteworthy and meaningful.
