President Donald Trump's meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un-in addition to being a diplomatic extravaganza-has produced a document that will continue to be debated for months.
He said Pyongyang was committed to giving up its nuclear programme.
"We're going to get denuclearization", he said. "Only then, there will be a relief from the sanctions".
The job of US ambassador to South Korea has been vacant since Trump took office in January 2017, a point of bipartisan consternation given the need for strong collaboration with Seoul during the sensitive nuclear discussions.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo conveyed us resolve for "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the State Department said on Thursday, as well as concerns about Chinese activities in the South China Sea.

Then, during his State of the Union address last January, he said "no regime has oppressed its own citizens more totally or brutally than the cruel dictatorship in North Korea".
Speaking at a news conference in Seoul alongside South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, the US secretary of state said the Trump administration would not repeat the mistakes made by past presidents that rewarded Pyongyang for denuclearization promises.
Speaking to reporters after talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, Pompeo said, "China has reaffirmed its commitment to honouring the UN Security Council resolutions". Last summer, the operation included 17,500 US troops, including 3,000 who traveled to South Korea from other locations to participate.
The broadcast also showed the pair sitting down for talks, sharing a working lunch, signing a joint statement and Trump showing Kim his armoured limousine, nicknamed the "Beast".

After meeting with Kim, many were surprised when Trump spoke about joint military exercises, what he called "war games", with South Korea.
However, Mr Lee said it was still undecided whether the military exercises would be suspended or cancelled. Trump called the training, "provocative". The president made the comments after his meeting with Kim.

Harris said it is still in the U.S.'s national security interests to keep THAAD in South Korea to defend against North Korean tactical missile threats.
Mr Lee said he believed that this time, Mr Kim and his country would be "very sincere" in implementing their agreement. First, Kim Jong-un was too much a maverick for China to control, and could easily drag the entire East Asian region into a conflagration that China would find hard to avoid.
The reports say Kim expressed a willingness to hold talks with Abe.

That new Resi 7 RE engine tech that made that game's Mold enemies so slimy and nasty is working well with the old classic zombies. I constantly heard creaks, crashes and distant undead growls, making even the quietest moments of my demo completely unsettling.
