Trump Complains Democrats Won't Pay Ransom For Immigrant Kids He Took Hostage

White House divided: Melania breaks ranks with Trump on immigration

In an extraordinary intervention on the key issue of immigration, First Lady Melania Trump has released a statement that many commentators are seeing as an implicit criticism of her husband's policy on the separation of migrant children from their parents.

House Republicans introduced legislation Friday that lined up with Trump's demands on immigration policy and sought to end the policy of separating children from their parents. Last month, facing a sharp uptick in illegal border crossings, Mr. Trump ordered a new effort to criminally prosecute anyone who crossed the border unlawfully - with few exceptions for parents traveling with their minor children. Under the policy, adults who cross the border illegally are prosecuted and any children with them are placed into USA custody and held in detention centers.

In an op-ed, Bush spoke out forcefully against the Trump administration practice, comparing scenes of migrant children locked in cages away from their parents to the internment of Japanese-Americans during the second world war. In fact, the administration announced a zero-tolerance approach in April, leading to the separations.

Immigration activists, medical professionals, religious leaders, Democrats and some in Trump's own Republican Party have condemned his administration for separating almost 2,000 children from their parents at the U.S.

Mrs. Trump's spokeswoman issued the statement after several days of images of crying children appearing on television and online.

Almost 2,000 minors were separated from their parents or adult guardians who illegally crossed into the United States over a recent 6-week period, officials said Friday, June 15, as debate raged over how to end the deeply controversial practice.

Sessions described the policy as created to be a deterrant to illegal immigration, announcing "If you don't like that, then don't smuggle children over our border".

In it, she expressed disapproval of the Trump administration's new policy.

Democrats are being forced to get creative in protesting the Trump Administration's new "zero tolerance" stance toward immigration, as they are outnumbered legislatively in the House.

The president on Monday also said that children are being used as a means for criminals to enter the United States, and he cited the crime in countries south of the United States' borders. "It is immoral. And it breaks my heart".

People on all sides agree that our immigration system isn't working, but the injustice of zero tolerance is not the answer.

Over the weekend, CNN National Security Analyst Michael Hayden, who was nominated by Bush to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, tweeted out a photo of the Birkenau death camp at Auschwitz, writing, "Other governments have separated mothers and children". 'So if they don't like that law, they should change it'. Imagine not being able to pick up a child who is not yet out of diapers. Never. Until today. This is the first time I've seen him move away and try to blame somebody else. Why? My mother-in-law never viewed her embrace of that fragile child as courageous. "Whatever people think about Melania as a public figure, and as Donald's wife, there is no doubt that she genuinely loves children".

In 2018, can we not as a nation find a kinder, more compassionate and more moral answer to this current crisis?

"I wish he would be a dad - for one moment, just don't be a politician".
