Thomas Markle explains why Prince Harry and Meghan haven't visited him yet

The boyfriend: "The first phone call was, "Daddy I have a new boyfriend", and I was like, "That's really nice".

Before her marriage into the royal family, Meghan Markle criticised Trump as a "misogynist". "I think Harry has changed his mind by now".

After a few days of feeling better, the heart issues returned and he needed emergency surgery: 'The doctors said 'This is what doctors call the widow maker.' It would have killed me'.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot at Windsor Castle on May 19th.

The former Suits actress confirmed the news that her father would not be attending the royal wedding just two days before she was set to Wednesday Prince Harry. However, Markle said that Harry had rung him to ask permission to marry Meghan, former star of the TV drama "Suits", and that he was very likeable.

Kensington Palace, which speaks for Harry and his brother William, declined to comment on the interview, though the statements by Meghan's father may bring unease to the royal family which closely adheres to its politically neutral stance.

"The unfortunate thing for me now is that I'm a footnote in one of the greatest moments in history rather than the dad walking her down the aisle", he said.

He also said the sixth in line to the throne appeared "open" to the idea of Brexit when they had a "loose" talk about it.

Markle said he gave Harry permission to marry his daughter over the phone.

Adding that he was recovering well from his surgery, which saw him have three stents fitted, Mr Markle said he was "honoured" that the Prince of Wales took on the job of walking Meghan down the aisle instead.

"He was asking me how I was feeling that day, and I was telling him how unhappy I was with the president, or with the idea of Trump, and that's how it began", Markle stated. "I just wish it had been my hand holding my daughter, not his".

He claimed Harry once told him to "give Donald Trump a chance".

"I was very proud". And while Thomas was disappointed he wasn't there himself, he said that Prince Charles did a good job filling his shoes. There was no real commitment for it.

It remains to be seen if Harry and Meghan - or Charles - will speak to Thomas again anytime soon. "There's got to be a child in the making there soon". While the shakeup led to much speculation regarding who would be taking Markle Sr.'s place, it was announced on May 18 that Markle had asked her future father-in-law, Prince Charles.

It was a lovely moment to watch and it was very clear that Prince Charles and Meghan got on very well as they smiled and chatted quietly for a brief moment.
