Target is the latest brand to find themselves in a social media mess after customers called them out for selling racially insensitive Father's Day cards.

The term "baby daddy" typically refers to someone who is the father of a woman's child but is not her husband or partner.

She said: 'You CANNOT be serious Target! The shopper, Takeisha Saunders, claimed it was the only card Target offered featuring a black couple.

The post quickly spread and has been shared by over 100 people.

"We appreciate the feedback and apologize", Target wrote on Twitter. It's not sweet or nice, ' she stated.

Target only stocked the card in half of the company's stores.

American Greetings, which manufactured the card, also issued an apology.

The retailer was alerted about the card last week and is removing the card from its stores.

The popular chain said: We assure you it is never our intention to offend our guests with the merchandise we provide.

'It's a term used to describe a deadbeat or absent parent.

Target responded to customers' concerns in a Wednesday morning tweet, saying it never meant to offend shoppers. "We have notified our store merchandisers to remove the card from the shelves and apologize for any offense we've caused".

"I understand Target did not make the cards", said Saunders.

Still, Saunders tells Fox News she's hoping to "shed some light" on why the cards are offensive. Thanks for posting the inside I didn't read it'.

A representative for American Greetings was not immediately available to comment.
