The Toronto Raptors are hiring assistant Nick Nurse to become the franchise's new head coach, league sources told ESPN.
Toronto fired Dwane Casey on May 11 after the team was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinal.
Nurse, 50, replaces Dwane Casey who was sacked last month after the Raptors were swept in the conference semifinals by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
All three have interesting cases, with Nurse's resume standing as among the most decorated it could be without National Basketball Association head coaching experience, Stackhouse having an incredible first two seasons as a lead coach behind the 905 bench, and Kalamian holding a strong relationship with players and having what would seem to be the proper demeanor for the position. Casey was named the head coach of the Detroit Pistons on Monday. The results were mixed in the first year, but maybe over a larger sample - with Nurse now in charge - there will be even more improvement. Wojnarowski reports that Nurse accepted the job on Tuesday morning.
Mike Budenholzer, former Atlanta Hawks head coach and Spurs assistant, was also seen as a front-runner before being hired by Milwaukee.
