Putin dismisses G7 criticism as ‘babbling’, calls for cooperation

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas

Lauding the US president's efforts in the worldwide scene, Putin said that Trump's actions, though frequently criticized in his own country, are "constructive".

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he's happy to meet with President Donald Trump once Washington is ready to hold the summit.

The Kremlin leader did not miss an opportunity to thumb his nose at the club of leading industrialised democracies, saying that the combined purchasing power of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation -which includes Russian Federation and China - outstripped the G7.

Trump said on Friday that Russian Federation should have attended a Group of Seven summit in Canada over the weekend, an idea that even Moscow seemed to reject saying it was focused on other formats.

Putin said the G7 countries "again" failed to provide any evidence that his country was behind the Skripal poisoning in the southwest of England.

In early April, Kremlin aide Vladimir Ushakov said Trump had proposed a meeting with Putin during a telephone call.

Putin's remarks followed a report that White House officials were working toward setting up a meeting.

"The U.S. president has repeatedly said that it's reasonable to hold such a meeting", he said.

China also expects to enhance its anti-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan, Xi said.

The SCO, a regional security bloc, is led by China and Russian Federation.

'It wasn't us who left, ' he said.

Putin added that although he met with President Trump at various global venues, they never got an opportunity to discuss Russian-U.S. relations.

President Donald Trump suggested ahead of arriving at the G-7 summit Friday that the group offer a seat at the table to Russian Federation. "We are facing a very volatile region", she said.

Thanks to President Putin, bilateral ties have withstood the test of ever-changing global situation, Xi said, noting the deepened political and strategic mutual trust, great progress in pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and the enhanced friendship between the two peoples. It is a serious issue, this might really hurt the economic interests of many countries, first of all, of course, of the European ones.

Earlier on Sunday, Putin criticised the United States withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal in a speech at the summit.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday slammed the Trump administration for unilaterally dumping the Iran nuclear deal while complimented China, Russia and Europe for trying to protect it.

During the meeting, President Mamnoon expressed the hope that all parties of the Iran nuclear deal would continue to implement the agreement and uphold their commitments.

US President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the 2015 worldwide pact with Iran that placed limits on its nuclear programme in return for the easing of economic sanctions.
