Phillies fan injured by flying hot dog launched by Phanatic

Heads up! The Phillie Phanatic goes into launch mode at a 2016 game

"And hard", McVay said about the hot dog. It hit me like a ton of bricks.

The hot dog struck McVay in the face, and she underwent a CT scan to make sure she didn't have a concussion, according to Philadelphia's WPVI.

CBSSports.com's Dayn Perry says this was no laughing matter, writing, "Yikes". Ms. McVay's potential right to recover against the Phillies nearly certainly would be governed by whatever the limiting language on her ticket said, i.e., whether wayward hot dogs were among the covered objects in the disclaimer.

The Phanatic mascot launched the hot dog into the stands in between innings. 6ABC reported that her facial injuries require treatment with ice every 20 minutes and have her feeling very sore. "Because you would think you'd get hit by a baseball instead of a flying hot dog". "Just to be aware, because you never know. And mostly, it's going to get worse before it gets better", McVay said. "It's going to go down the side of my face", Ms. McVay noted.

After her ordeal, does she have some words of caution for her fellow baseball fans?

And while she understands that her injury is rather unusual and comical, McVay still had advice to give to other fans in the stands.

The fan isn't planning any legal action against the Phillies, but the team said she will receive free tickets for another game when healthy.

To her credit, McVay understands the ridiculous nature of her injury and is taking it all in stride.

From deep within the bowels of the inevitable comes this: A fan has been injured by a projectile from the Phillie Phanatic's hot dog cannon.
