Liverpool's Serie A Target Happy To Leave Future In Agent's Hands

Liverpool's big-money move for Nabil Fekir collapsed

Liverpool's proposed move to sign the Lyon ace failed to materialise.

Fekir would have been an outstanding signing for Liverpool, and would have added a certain level of potency to their already risky front-line.

According to the paper, as the issue is to do with Fekir's medical history, there is a confidentiality issue preventing certain details being made public.

"I think if Liverpool are to continue to contend at the higher ends of European football, if they are to threaten the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United, one of the holes they've got to plug is in-between the sticks".

The Ligue 1 club recently broke off transfer negotiations with Liverpool regarding the transfer of Fekir, and the Reds have prioritised Shaqiri as the ideal alternative.

Focus will now turn to other targets, with the club's pursuit of a new goalkeeper and another wide player (potentially Stoke's Xerdan Shaqiri), set to round off Liverpool's transfer activity this summer window.

Shaqiri is keen to join Liverpool and the Reds believe he has a release clause - which is around £12m - in his contract.

Though Klopp will be able to count on midfield reinforcements in the form of former Leipzig no. 8 Naby Keita and Fabinho come the new season, work still needs to be done.

The Mirror's report adds that Liverpool will take a step back from the transfer market as they assess the situation while the World Cup goes on.
