Jimmy Fallon responds to Trump: 'Why are you tweeting at me?'

I think what the restaurant should have done is treated her the same way she treats the press: They should have just brought her an empty plate, and then when she says, 'Uh, where's my food?' you go, 'Oh, it's right there.

Following a tweet by Trump which told the late night show host to "be a man", Fallon responded to the furore in the opening monologue of his show on Monday night.

"In honor of the President's tweet I'll be making a donation to RAICES in his name", Fallon said, referring to a non-profit organisation that provides free and low-priced legal services to immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas.

Later on Monday, Trump - cue the "breaking news" fanfare - doubled down on his Fallon bashing during a rally in SC.

"The immigration debate continues to dominate the news - families separated, children in cages, and now, people are going hungry", Trevor Noah said on Monday's Daily Show. Be a man Jimmy!' he said in a Trump-esque voice while showing the graphic of the actual tweet.

The host also disputed Trump's claim that Fallon had called him to tell him that he had "monster ratings". "And once Fallon caught wind of the tweet, he quite literally put his money where his mouth is, tweeting that he was going to be making a personal donation to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, which is a" Texas-based nonprofit agency that provides free or low-priced legal aid to immigrants and refugees".

In honor of the President's tweet I'll be making a donation to RAICES in his name.

The comic went on to joke that having Trump attack him on Twitter is "pretty much the only thing I have in common with National Football League players". I'm depressed. Do you want to push me more? What do you want me to do? What would make you happy?

Jimmy Fallon as stayed away from attacking Donald Trump in his monologues, but now the gloves are off after the president sent out a mean tweet dissing him.

"By the way, Donald".

"By the way, Donald, I don't know if you've seen my ratings the past two years, but you didn't help my ratings", the host added. "But really, thanks a lot".

Unlike some of his late-night counterparts, Fallon does not usually wade into the political thicket.

"He looks like a lost soul". "He should be thankful. He shouldn't be upset and angry".
