The Naperville Police Department posted dashcam video of last month's rescue by Sgt. Anthony Mannino on its Facebook page Monday. Dash cam from Sergeant Anthony Mannino's patrol vehicle shows him plucking a toddler from harm's way in Naperville, Illinois last month.
From a distance, he thought the figure moving near Route 59 was some kind of animal.
The department presented Sgt. Mannino on Thursday with their "Life Saving Award" for his actions. He then chased the boy down, even as the 1-year-old continued running.
"You're OK. You're OK", said Mannino, when he caught up to the boy.
Naperville Police said the little boy "escaped his mother's watchful eye" and got out of his house.
Mannino says the mother showed up moments later and "obviously was very emotional".
