Homeowner's association issued gator warning before Davie attack

Alligator warning was issued to South Florida residents two days before fatal attack

The Davie Police Department and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Matsuki was attacked near a lake, but details about the fatal incident have not been released.

A man who identified himself as Matsuki's brother and several other family friends gathered at the scene. "We will be conducting a thorough investigation into this incident", the commission tweeted.

Matsuki, 47, had last been seen at the lake near the Ft.

A witness told authorities he saw the woman walking two dogs Friday and then noticed the dogs alone, barking near the water.

Officials captured and killed an alligator Friday and found evidence during a necropsy of the animal that it had bitten Matsuki.

An FWC nuisance alligator harvest permit shows a complaint was filed March 26 requesting that the gator be removed from the water for the safety of people who walk near the trails with their dogs.

She had been assumed dead, but a search was ongoing for her body.

Two days before the woman was fatally attacked, an emailed warning about a trespassing gator was sent out to homeowners in the waterfront community where she lived.

One of Matsuki's dogs also "got bit by the gator, " Davie Police Major Dale Engle told the Sun Sentinel.

A passerby saw Matsuki's with her dogs near the shoreline about 9:45 a.m. Friday, police said. "She was just your ordinary soccer mom". Both animals have been taken to Broward County Animal and Care and Adoption.

According to the wildlife commission, the likelihood of a Florida resident being seriously injured during an unprovoked alligator incident in Florida is roughly only 1 in 3.2 million.

The most recent was in 2016, when 2-year-old Lane Graves was dragged into a lake by an alligator and killed while playing on the water's edge during a family vacation at a Walt Disney World hotel in Orlando.
