Germany undecided on 2026 World Cup vote

David Beckham has thrown his support behind the combined United States, Canada and Mexico bid to host the 2026 World Cup.

The United 2026 bid will be hoping Beckham's global appeal works in the same way it did when he was used as an ambassador for London's successful bid for the 2012 Olympics, although his fame did not help England when it tried to win the right to stage the 2018 World Cup.

The question is whether FIFA's recent evaluation of both bids may matter during the vote and how much weight voters will give to the technical evaluations.

"In the coming days, we will continue our mission to demonstrate to Fifa and the entire football family, our ability to deliver a highly profitable and truly authentic Fifa World Cup - one that will leave a lasting legacy for the world of football".

Grindel conceded, however, that the reports from the FIFA Evaluation Task Force - which cleared both bids to proceed to the FIFA Council for approval - "hands the momentum" to the United 2026 bid because the panel "sees advantages in the areas of stadium, transport as well as ticketing and hospitality".

A difference in projected ticket sales of United States dollars 1.3 billion between the two bids helped lead the report to note "significantly higher" forecast revenue of USD14.3 billion from North Americans and USD 7.2 billion from Morocco.

The cost of taking the tournament to North America was marked at $2.16 billion, compared to just $1.87 billion for Morocco 2026.

"I think a joint bid is important and it is three places where football runs deep".

The World Cup will be increased from 32 to 48 teams from 2026 but the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) proposed in April that the change be introduced in 2022.

"They have been awarded a World Cup with 32 teams and that is how it is", he said. Hosting 48 teams could mean sharing games with other Middle East nations to find up to four extra stadiums Qatar now does not plan to build.

Any consultation on the 2022 World Cup must reach a decision by FIFA's June 2019 congress, he said.

"CONMEBOL made an interesting we will have to look into it".

Last month, resistance from UEFA to a new Club World Cup format over a lack of clarity about the plans led to Infantino backing down from an attempt to push it through ahead of the World Cup.

He said other investors have approached now it is known Federation Internationale de Football Association could enter a 12-year partnership with commercial interests to run the club event, and a global Nations League. I've seen that passion.

"I can not disclose (details) in that $25 billion", said Infantino who was not concerned about which country the investment originated from. "So we want to tell them our story about this bid and the quality and merits of our bid and ask for their support", Reed told Zimbabwean publication The Herald.
