England striker Marcus Rashford suffers World Cup injury scare

England-World Cup

Early exits in the group stages at the 2014 World Cup and in humiliating fashion to Iceland at Euro 2016 have tempered expectations England can end a 52-year wait to win the World Cup.

The spirit in the camp appears to be brilliant, and there is a real positivity amongst England fans both in Russian Federation and back at home.

Young insists himself and the rest of the travelling roster know how important a good start to the World Cup is though and are ready to achieve exactly that in the opening game against Tunisia on Monday night.

Southgate revealed Rashford will be assessed by medical staff, but is confident the injury is not too serious.

We say preparations have been "almost perfect" because Marcus Rashford's injury is a slight concern for Gareth Southgate's side.

Asked whether he was sure of his starting XI for England's first group match, Southgate added: 'I might sleep on it'.

However, impressive displays in warm-up wins over Nigeria and Costa Rica have given some hope that England could win a knockout game for the first time at any major tournament for 12 years.

But it's not just the fans that are excited by Rashford, it seems.

The former England striker told the Daily Mail: "We can't forget he's only 20".

Back-up goalkeeper Jack Butland is also impressed by the Manchester United youngster.

"I like the fact he is a home-grown Manchester United player: we need these characters".

"You can pick knocks up, there is one or two very close calls that we can see how we players are when we get into sessions here".
