Kim Hancock, 59, was in a crowd of tourists who got within 10 yards of the bison while walking along a boardwalk in the Lower Geyser Basin on Wednesday.

The park report said some in the crowd came within 15 feet of the bison.

When the animal crossed the boardwalk, the bison became agitated and charged the crowd, goring Hancock. It then immediately fled the area. She's in good condition, officials said Thursday. The statement noted that people should keep a distance of roughly 75 feet at least from certain animals including bison and elk, and stay even further away from bears and wolves.

Safety tips from Yellowstone park officials can be found here. On 1 May, a woman from Idaho was slightly injured as she walked on a trail in the park. Another woman, 51, from Las Vegas was also hurt by a cow elk on Sunday behind the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, according to park officials.

"Animals in Yellowstone are wild and unpredictable, no matter how calm they appear to be", officials wrote. "Give animals space", the park said.

The incident remains under investigation. "If you can't maintain these distances, turn around and find an alternate route".

The latest attack at Yellowstone comes days after two people were attacked by elks in separate incidents.

Last year, there was one bison-related injury and there were five such incidents in 2015.

Earlier this week, two women were attacked by female elk protecting their calves, according to USA Today.
