With top speeds exceeding 3,800 miles per hour, the trek from NY to London, for example, could take 120 minutes.
Such a plane would be capable of travelling at five times the speed of sound and would be smaller than the current planes that are used for long-haul flights, such as the Boeing 737.
While Boeing has been working on hypersonics research since the mid-'50s, the company will still face numerous hurdles before it can actually build this hypersonic jet. That translates to about 3,900 miles per hour or a two-hour trip across the Atlantic.
Travel enthusiasts, take a deep breath.
In a presentation at the 2018 American Institute of Aeronautics Aviation in Atlanta the USA company unveiled its design for the unnamed plane, saying it could travel of speed of up to 6500km/h.
"We're excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before", Bowcutt said in a post on Boeing's website.
The company says that the design could have military as well as commercial applications - and, having raised the curtain on the design in the American south-east, is preparing to showcase the design on British soil, at the Farnborough Air Show, in Hampshire, next month (July 16-22).
It is understood that the aircraft would be capable of carrying passengers while travelling at full-speed, with Boeing saying it could be used commercially or for military uses. The OEM provided little details about a timeline for the introduction of such an aircraft but said it is just one of several hypersonic concepts its engineers are now researching.
There's no exact timeline in place yet, Boeing says the hypersonic passenger vehicle could be airborne in the next 20-30 years.
And Elon Musk's rocket startup, SpaceX, has plans to use the spaceship portion of its interplanetary transport system to shuttle people around the globe at unheard of speeds.
