2018's Apple developer conference kicked off yesterday in San Jose, California with loads of announcements. The Stocks app is also getting a massive update with integration of the News app. As for developers who are part of the Apple Developer Program, a preview is available beginning 6 June while a public beta program will be available to Mac users in late June.
The best new features in iOS 12 is not something new and fancy, it's not a technological revolution, but it is something that will make the experience better for millions of users.
The latest tvOS 12 will be offered by Charter Communications to its customers later this year, joining AT&T's DirecTV Now in the US, Canal+ in France and Salt in Switzerland.
The system used to have single sign-on: now it has zero sign-on.
There are also rumors about Apple launching Universal Apps. The newStacks feature will display icons on top of each other, in piles. The newApp Store has been redesigned from the ground up with a brand new user interface, making it easier to navigate, discover and explore new apps.
This is interesting, because the two operating systems share different development points. So, for example, if you have a image stack then when you drop it onto the desktop it will get swept up into it - click on the stack and the files launch back on the desktop for perusal. And what makes it so special is a newMojave Desert desktop which is dynamic in nature, which means the image changes its looks as per the time of the day.
And we're not just talking about a dark Dock and Menu Bar. The new feature will automatically arrange all the files on the desktop into proper groups based on file type.
There are enhanced privacy and security features. After the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data breach, Apple has introduced a feature to Safari which they call Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which helps block social media "Like" or "Share" buttons and comment widgets from tracking users without their permission. Safari also expands its security arsenal by introducing the ability to remove social media buttons from websites, and also limits "fingerprinting", which should make it hard for websites to track unique user information such as fonts and configuration settings.
