Anthony Joshua nearing deal to fight Alexander Povetkin next

Anthony Joshua nearing deal to fight Alexander Povetkin next

I think it's a very fair offer and if he (Wilder) doesn't want to do the fight in September we can do it in December or February and we can sign the fight now - but we need to plan the next step.

The WBC heavyweight champion, who has been long in talks for a blockbuster fight with the IBF, IBO, WBO and WBA champion Anthony Joshua, is planning to move down to cruiserweight division once he's done unifying his predominant category.

Joshua's promoter maintains that the British star wants Wilder next but also wants to fight in September, which would also clear up any WBA mandatory obligations. We've extended that offer to Wilder.

Povetkin, who hails from Russian Federation, has a career record of 34-1, with his only loss coming to Wladimir Klitschko.

Povetkin earned the chance to challenge Joshua by knocking out David Price in their WNA final eliminator on the undercard of Joshua's success over Joseph Parker, in March.

Keeping up with the latest public demands has become a hard chore ever since Wilder, the WBC champion, rallied to stop Luis Ortiz in March and Joshua unified the remaining three titles by outpointing Joseph Parker weeks later.

"I don't like making deadlines because sometimes it gets people's backs up but at some stage soon we have to make a decision", Hearn said, via Sky Sports. Wilder has got two options.

Huge offers, alleged lowering of cuts, two-fight deals, rematch clauses - everything has been tried to find a compromise but it's still dragged on for months.

"There's never been a heavyweight ever go down in weight". For his last fight against Luis Ortiz, he weighed just over 214 pounds, whereas the limit for a cruiserweight is 200 pounds. I mean just for the fun of it.

"It is a very, very hard fight, the Povetkin fight". "He has lost once, to Wladimir Klitschko, who did everything he could to try and stop him but couldn't do it. [Povetkin] is an extremely tough man with extremely powerful people behind him and the entire nation behind him who will desperate to beat Anthony Joshua for a world heavyweight title".

Joshua has been very open about his desire to fight in the United Kingdom, while Wilder's camp made an alleged $50m offer to stage the fight in the U.S. - although the offer was rejected after no further details were given.
