Xbox Adaptive Controller a 'first' for disabled gamers

Microsoft’s Adaptive Controller Breaks the Barriers for Physical Disabilities

Microsoft's Xbox Adaptive Controller ($99) offers a solution.

The Xbox Adaptive Controller has been created to work with a wide array of peripherals and is completely customisable through the Xbox Accessories app. Microsoft and Xbox's commitment to accessibility has lead to the Xbox Adaptive Controller and will, in turn, lead to many more people being able to enjoy the pastime we all love. Our CEO, Satya Nadella, has talked about how fundamental it is that we push the limits of what innovation can do in a deliberate push to be comprehensive of everybody around the globe.

"These standards have the most profound effect on the way we are building items that are intended for everybody", Spencer proceeded.

"We're thrilled to introduce it to the world today, tell the story behind it, and take what we have learned on our journey to inform future initiatives in inclusive design".

A Right Thumbstick USB input port is the sole right-side connector. Through a partnership with Warfighter Engaged, an all‐volunteer non-profit which simplifies gaming controls for badly wounded veterans through adapted apparatus, a prototype has been put together that could become the Frog. The Xbox group's point was to make an exceedingly configurable availability highlight, and with 23 associations any reasonable person would agree they hit the objective. The key to making the controller work is its versatility.

Created in collaboration with The AbleGamers Charity, The Cerebral Palsy Foundation, SpecialEffect, Warfighter Engaged, Craig Hospital, and community members the new Xbox Adaptive Controller is a testament to inclusive design. He's been playing with the Xbox Adaptive controller for a few months and has only good things to say about it.

I can customize how I interface with the Xbox Adaptive Controller to whatever I want.

The controller's inclusive design approach is for gamers who might not be able to reach all the bumpers and triggers, or hold a controller for an extended period of time, for example.

The news comes as the charity Muscular Dystrophy UK has released a report saying more needs to be done to help disabled gamers. There, the head of Xbox explained the simple - yet meaningful - objective of this controller.
