UNCW men's golf climbs leaderboard at NCAA Regional tournament

Two UA golfers in top 10 in opening round of regional

The BYU Men's Golf team survived a disastrous first few holes to keep themselves in contention after round one of the NCAA Regionals.

North Dakota State is slated to tee off in the second round at 9:20 a.m. PT Tuesday, May 15. The Waves were in ninth place after the first round.

Schaake was three-over for the day and five-over for the tournament when round two was suspended. If all teams are unable to complete the third round, the standings would revert back to 36 holes to determine the five advancing teams.

The NCAA Bryan Regional will conclude on Wednesday. They are part of a regional field that includes 14 teams and five individuals. However, the five UA players caught fire after making the turn, carding a total of -10 on the back nine, with 16 birdies compared to only six bogeys. Hall was under par through the first seven holes, but finished his front nine +2 at 38.

Illinois' Michael Feagles leads individually at 3-under-par 71.

The Cyclones were led on day two by senior Denzel Ieremia.

Blustery conditions made things tough on the par-72 course, with just one team, host No. 3 Oklahoma, firing under par. ISU and the Crimson Tide sit one-stroke ahead of Kansas with 18 holes of golf to play. Augusta's Broc Everett, after carding a 66 Tuesday, is alone in third place at 133 (-9). Sam Vincent has a pair of rounds at 69 and is tied for sixth.

"I think we'll be really tough to beat if we've got four guys around par or better tomorrow". The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville fired a 5 over at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club while most of their rivals were shooting under par to fall eight spots into 10th place. (The Reserve at Spanos Park; LSU, top seed).
