Tiger Woods commits to The Memorial Tournament

Tiger Woods commits to play Memorial for next tournament

Fresh off a strong showing at the Players Championship, Tiger Woods has committed to playing the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Ohio.

Woods will make his 15th trip to the Memorial, a tournament he has won five times, most recently in 2012. Jack Nicklaus annually hosts the tournament on the course he designed and built. It is also where he shot his highest score as a pro, an 85 during the third round of the 2015 tournament, his last appearance. Jason Dufner is the defending champ.

"I am pleased that the Memorial Tournament once again is drawing a wonderful field", Nicklaus said in a release.

"He's been very close, and having won five times at Muirfield Village, I wouldn't be surprised if he contended to win his sixth".

The 14-times major champion has earned four top-12 finishes, including a share of 11th at last week's Players Championship, in the eight events he has played since returning to the PGA Tour this year after spinal fusion surgery in April 2017.

Woods has shot below 70 before the weekend just twice so far this year, when he shot a 68 on a Friday at the Valspar Championship in March when he finished and the next Thursday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational when he had shot a 68.

"This weekend was extremely positive", Woods said after the Players.

Woods, who began the year ranked No. 656, has moved up to No. 80.
