Arrow star Stephen Amell announced Thursday at the network's upfront presentation that Batwoman will be introduced during the network's annual crossover event.
Well, looks like Matt got his wish because Amell has just revealed that Batwoman and the city of Gotham are going to become a part of The CW's DC shared universe!
When announcing the news, Amell stood in front of a backdrop that included his character Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow, alongside Grant Gustin's Barry Allen aka The Flash, and Melissa Benoist's Kara Danvers aka Supergirl. When we reported on it, RTF writer Matt Vernier suggested one of the cool things that announcement could be is the arrival of a member of the Bat Family to the Arrowverse. But we do know that at least one bat-hero will be there to meet the gang in the form of Batwoman herself.
The CW's President, Mark Pedowitz confirmed the news, saying that this would be the first time the character would appear "on any screen".
"This will be another full-throttled action packed event", said Pedowitz.
First introduced in 1956 as a love interest and vigilante inspired by Batman's crimefighting efforts, Kathy Kane's Batwoman was pushed out of the narratives a decade later. The modern version, Kate Kane, was reintroduced in 2006 and is of Jewish descent and a lesbian. But no more - because the next crossover is heading to Gotham City, and meeting up with a familiar face: Batwoman herself.
