Student With 'Indian Occupied Kashmir' Profile Tweets To Swaraj For Passport Help

An MBBS student in Philippines, Sheikh Ateeq, who had claimed he came from "Indian Occupied Kashmir", got a stinging reply on Thursday from India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj when he tweeted to her for help with his passport.

Ateeq had asked Swaraj for help on April 5 on the social media platform.

Responding to it, Swaraj had snapped at Ateeq for having "Indian-occupied Kashmir" in the place line of his Twitter profile. Is there anything u can do to rush the process of my passport as it is damaged.

Later, Swaraj returned to the tweet to point out that Ateeq has changed his place line, and tagged the Twitter handle of the Indian embassy in the Philippines to help him. "My health is detereorating and I can not shoulder the expenses any more as I'm student (sic)", he said in his earlier tweet.

Ateeq, however, appears to have deactivated his Twitter account, with the first location on his profile having elicited quite harsh responses from Twitterati. The external affairs minister tweeted, "Your profile says you are from "Indian occupied Kashmir". Hours after this tweet, she addressed the user again, "I am happy you have corrected the profile". Jaideep - He is an Indian national from J&K. He urged the minister to help him as he needs to return to India for a medical check-up.
