Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich faced long processing time to extend his UK investor visa, a source from Abramovich's inner circle told Sputnik, denying allegations that the United Kingdom had refused to renew the visa.

Abramovich, who missed yesterday's FA Cup Final which saw Chelsea win 1-0 over Manchester United, has apparently gone back to Russian Federation and can not enter Britain.

"[Abramovich] is in the process of renewing his visa, which is standard procedure".

With a net worth estimated at more than $10 billion, hundreds of millions of which have been invested in Britain, Mr. Abramovich should have no trouble clearing that hurdle.

Some British officials have called for sanctions aimed at hurting super-rich Russians living in the U.K.in the wake of the poisoning of Sergei Skripal, a former Russian double agent, and his daughter in March.

The associate told The Associated Press that Abramovich's visa renewal application is taking longer than usual to go through, saying the reason for the delay was unclear.

Russian billionaire Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and has bankrolled their rise to the elite in world football.

A committee of MPs released a hard-hitting report on Monday, accusing Mr Putin and his allies of "hiding and laundering their corrupt assets in London". "We do not comment on it", said the correspondent of TASS, the representative of Millhouse Capital, John Mann.

Meanwhile UK Home Office Security Minister Ben Wallace has stated that the ministry does not comment on individual visa cases.

Tier 1 visas are given to applicants who want to open businesses in Britain and have at least £50,000 in investment funds.

"The old visa has expired, and he applied for a new one. As a result of these reforms, applications reduced by 84 per cent".
