Question of the Day: Android P Gesture Navigation, Thoughts?

Google's Aparna Chennapragada speaks at the Google I O conference in Mountain View Calif. Tuesday

Android P will come standard with a new feature called adaptive battery, which will conserve your phone battery life by predicting which apps you use often, and others you don't, by utilizing less CPU power. Now, Google, which didn't have the same UI problem to fix, confirmed that Android P will have a new navigation system that'll look a lot like the iPhone X's gestures.

One of the biggest pluses for users is that with Android P, Google will crackdown on companies and services that harvest data from users via apps.

Android Auto, the in-car option for using smartphone apps on your dashboard, began supporting wireless connectivity last month, allowing owners of any Google Pixel or Nexus device to connect their smartphones to their vehicle without a cable.

If you have a compatible phone, just head to the official site and enroll your device in the beta program. The new tool within the feature now allows users to copy and paste real-world text, Google revealed at the I/O 2018. You'll be able to set the brightness for specific situations, and Android P will use machine learning to figure out how like you it.

Today at I/O, Google has released the second Developer Preview of Wear OS.

Go Home: There's no more home button (virtual or otherwise) in Android P, but the replacement is pretty straightforward.

Earlier this week, Google announced that Volvo would build Android Auto directly into its head units, making it one of the first vehicle manufacturers to do so.

Unsurprisingly, the team is now looking at how it can evolve the Android Auto UI to better support these different screens.

If you're having trouble getting to your app drawer quickly with Google's new two-swipe system, there's an easy fix for that, too.

If you find the new features a bit creepy, you can disable one or all of them. The reason for this is that Google does not want to give users the ability to install apps that could distract them while on the road.

To dismiss apps from the recent apps view just swipe the app preview card upwards off the screen.

The home button still exists in a way and the back button turns up whenever you'll need it.

The above screenshot shows the notification panel, where an app called Lockwatch is running in the background, and the camera and mic icons are displayed on the right.
