In a chat with wife on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, former actress Portia De Rossi revealed that it was because she can not handle the media and paparazzi that she gave up acting.
"I called Mitch Hurwitz, who's the creator of Arrested Development, and I said, "if there is a season 5 I won't be doing it because I quit acting" and he seemed really understanding and he totally got it and we had a great conversation and then he wrote me into 5 episodes", she said.
Portia says she left the hit show Scandal (which just aired its series finale) as she approached her 45th birthday.
"I just kind of was wondering is there something that I could tackle now that I've never done before that would be really challenging and different?" the star said.
"Once a Bluth, always a Bluth."
Portia then told the audience that she made a decision to quit acting because she's started a new business.
With an acting career spanning three decades, de Rossi says she was curious what else might be out there for her professionally.
De Rossi said she launched her art publishing company to bring high-quality prints to everyone.
Portia is now focusing on developing her new business, an art venture named General Public, in which she collaborates with artists to create their original works as Synographs, or textured prints, and sells them online direct to consumers. "You decided you didn't want to do anything more with acting", she said of her wife of almost 10 years. "Rather than the traditional flat print that kind of looks like a poster, we print with all the texture and articulation that's in the original painting", she explained.
