PlayStation Boss Reveals Whether We'll See PS5 at E3

PlayStation E3 2018 Press Conferenc

What you shouldn't expect is an announcement of new hardware, as Sony has chose to lay the rumours of PlayStation 5 being released before next summer to rest by making it very clear that there won't be any new hardware announcement at the conference. In it, Shawn Layden, Chairman of Worldwide Studios, explained that the focus of Sony's E3 would be on four Sony exclusive titles in particular. Likewise, Square Enix and Ubisoft are hosting their press conferences at 10AM PST and 1PM PST respectively, making for a heavy day of game announcements. For Spider-Man there will be "a new drop", which is likely to be a new trailer.

For Death Stranding, Layden said Sony has a "complete new report for everybody about what is happening around that title", while Ghost of Tsushima will also have a "deep dive". "We're taking a different angle on how we're bringing it out". As expected you'll want to pencil in some free time for Monday, June 11, 2018, at 6 pm PT.

Those, of course, are Death Stranding from Kojima Productions, The Last of Us Part II from Naughty Dog, Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch, and Marvel's Spider-Man from Insomniac Games. However, just because the emphasis seems to be on deep dives this year, doesn't mean it won't still have a separate, more traditional conference. We know we'll be getting some more Death Stranding goodness, as well as even more The Last of Us II, but what else do they have up their sleeves?

This suggests we can expect some sort of announcement on exclusive deals along the likes of Activision titles Call of Duty and Destiny 2. Layden confirmed that the press event will be packed with announcements regarding third-party games, as well as the usual does of Indie-related news.

You can listen to the whole blogcast episode right here. Those who can't attend in person can see everything they have live via Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and directly from the PlayStation website as well.
