OIC to meet in Istanbul Friday to mull Israel violence

Turkey Announces Extraordinary Summit of Islamic Conference

Bangladesh will attend the extraordinary summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan who now holds its rotating chairmanship. The two countries along with the worldwide community will seek to increase pressure on Israel and United States by using OIC's platform to ensure a peaceful future.

He added that all members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) were invited.

East Jerusalem is considered occupied Palestinian territory under worldwide law.

Since the Gaza rallies began on March 30, more than 100 Palestinian demonstrators have been martyred by cross-border Israeli army gunfire.

While expressing deep condolences and sympathies for the Palestinians, Bangladesh called on the global community to put pressure on Israel to stop the atrocities immediately.

Bangladesh stressed preserving the legal status of Jerusalem as an worldwide city within the framework of relevant United Nations resolutions.

The summit declared East Jerusalem - which the global community regards as annexed by Israel - "as the capital of the State of Palestine" and urged the world to follow suit.

Ankara has reacted with fury to the killing of at least 61 Palestinians in Gaza on the same day as the U.S. formally moved its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv in defiance of worldwide outrage.

According to an OIC statement, the summit is being convened at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced that May 18 would be marked as solidarity day with Palestinian Muslims at an official level just to show their Palestinian brothers that Pakistan as a nation stands with them in this time of trial.

The OIC Secretary General also stressed the need for the worldwide community to play its role towards finding a political solution to the Palestine issue in accordance with global law, resolutions of world bodies and the Arab Peace Initiative.
