No Borderlands 3 at E3 2018, According to Gearbox

Borderlands 3 Won't Be Shown At E3 2018

Borderlands 3 has been in the works for at least two years now, but word on the game's details has been scarce.

Gearbox Software CEO and co-founder Randy Pitchford has seemingly closed the door on the possibility of Borderlands 3 appearing at E3 2018. It also refutes the information that was seen in the massive Walmart leak days ago where Borderlands 3 was shown with only a title and no box art.

In a string of tweets, Pitchford, a well-documented magic enthusiast, laid the groundwork for the implication that Borderlands 3 will skip E3 with a magic-related metaphor. He stated that people would still interpret his Tweets the way they want to.

Even if Borderlands 3 doesn't appear at E3, this doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

While we realise we are absolutely doing what Pitchford says we will in his tweets, we can't help but wonder if this is some kind of misdirection or, perhaps, a hint that what we'll see next from the Borderlands universe won't be called Borderlands 3.

Rage 2 was announced earlier this week and, with its happy-go-lucky approach to an open-world post-apocalypse game, the comparisons to Gearbox's Borderlands series were inevitable. Recently, they told ShackNews that the game won't be showcased at E3 2018. While some of the unannounced games seemed completely of the wall - Forza Horizon 5? - others, like Rage 2, have turned out to be accurate.

If I had to make a prediction, it very much sounds like Borderlands 3 won't be appearing at E3 this year, though Pitchford's weirdly muddled answer does lead room for scepticism about what Gearbox has up its sleeve for next month.
