Nissan expands into solar energy systems

Nissan takes first solo steps into solar power

The Japanese automobile manufacturer, Nissan, has announced plans to enter the solar market without partnering with utilities.

The Japanese brand's United Kingdom arm is offering a new home energy product, Nissan Energy Solar, that combines roof-top solar panels with battery storage.

The carmaker today unveiled their all-new, all-in-one home energy solution dubbed "Nissan Energy Solar".

Nissan's AIO solar system comes with six solar panels, an "xStorage" battery, and Nissan's "Home Energy Management" system.

With the help of a home energy management system, customers can gain independence from the National Grid by storing electrical power for usage in overcast conditions and at night which can then help power their house or charge their vehicle. The latter will maximize the use of recyclable materials for a more sustainable option.

If you're interested in checking Nissan's Energy Solar system out for yourself, you might be out of luck.

"It enables United Kingdom homeowners to make significant savings on their household electricity bills, and become champions of sustainability and green technology".

The auto maker's first independent bid to grab a stake in the burgeoning home energy market puts the company in competition with traditional utilities and tech giants including Google and Amazon.

And with the Nissan Leaf going from strength to strength as the world's best selling electric auto, and the eNV200 electric van also in the offering, by inserting themselves into the power supply business it could help Nissan carve out their own corner of the market.
