Macedonian PM sees solution to name dispute with Greece in June

FYROM has “no alternative to NATO and the EU”

"With Alexis Tsipras, we are looking for opportunities for creative solutions, proposed by Macedonian representatives in the final phase of the negotiations", Zaev said.

The Prime Ministers of Greece and Macedonia met during the EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia. A potential solution was identified during the meeting and will be discussed within the countries. Even if a deal is reached, both leaders will need to deal with opposition in their countries, particularly from nationalist groups and political parties. The former part of Yugoslavia, then known as the Socialist Republic of Macedonia, adopted the shortened version Macedonia when it became independent.

Macedonia's North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and European Union accession process has been blocked by Greece which disputes the former Yugoslav republic's name, saying it implies a territorial claim over its northern province with the same name.
