Lindsey Buckingham Breaks Silence on Fleetwood Mac Firing: ''They Lost Their Perspective''

Ousted Drummer and founder Mick Fleetwood told CBS news that the classic line-up had put 18 months planning into a new tour but Buckinhgham refused to sign off

"It's been an interesting time on a lot of levels".

"I have sadly taken leave of my band of 43 years, Fleetwood Mac. This was not something that was my doing or my choice", said the guitarist and singer. The seat in the U.S. House of Representatives is up for grabs, with Republican Darrell Issa, who has held the seat since 2000, stepping down.

The 68-year-old was playing a fundraiser gig for Democratic congressional candidate Mike Levin in California on Friday night, when he spoke about his sacking three months ago. After a crowd member suggested that Stevie Nicks was one of the "factions...that had lost their perspective", he responded evenly, saying, "Well, it doesn't really matter".

Buckingham originally joined the band in 1975 and played with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks until 1987. In conversation with Rolling Stone, the band said that the decision was in response to Buckingham's objections to the band's upcoming tour schedule, and that his firing came down to a sort of "majority rules" decision.

"What that did was to harm - and this is the only thing I'm really sad about, the rest of it becomes an opportunity - it harmed the 43-year legacy that we had worked so hard to build", he explained.

Last month, Fleetwood Mac collectively issued a statement announcing plans to tour without Buckingham, announcing that Campbell and Finn would take his place.

'And it's not a question that Lindsey has huge amounts of respect and kudos to what he's done within the ranks of Fleetwood Mac and always will, ' he continued. But as a band we needed to move on and we have.

Stevie Nicks, left, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood appear at the 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute honouring Fleetwood Mac in NY. To that goal, we made a decision that we could not go on with him.
