JR Smith called for flagrant foul after dirty play

Celtics open East finals by ripping Cavaliers

The Cavs' guard pushed Horford under the basket when the Celtics' big man was going up to get a pass. Smith received a Flagrant 1 for the play. Smith didn't want to allow him an easy basket and made a decision to push Horford from behind, sending the Celtics big man to the ground.

Horford's teammate Marcus Smart immediately ran over to stand up for his teammate and got into it with Smith. Technical fouls were also assessed to Smith and Smart for their confrontation.

Smith's push was delivered in frustration as the Cavaliers watched a 55-48 halftime advantage disappear, with the incident coming as the Celtics were holding a 12-point lead at 99-89.

Here's the entire play, including the extra curricular activity.

Smith and his Cavaliers are lucky that he wasn't given a Flagrant 2 foul. He could very well have been ejected from the game.

In any event, this stemmed the tied as it related to any potential Cavaliers comeback. They now trail in the series, 2-0.
