Speaking at the opening of the new US embassy in Jerusalem, Jared Kushner made a passing reference to Monday's carnage in the Gaza Strip, where at least 52 Palestinian protesters were shot and killed by Israeli security forces in the worst violence there in nearly four years.

Scarborough spoke as the news station aired images of the first daughter and Kushner smiling and speaking about the embassy opening, juxtaposed with photographs of combat and bloodshed in Gaza, where Israeli military forces reportedly killed 58 Palestinians.

Journalist David Ignatius, a guest on the show, reiterated that the contrast of the images "will shock people in the Middle East, should be a shocking contrast for people all over the world".

The new USA embassy opened in Jerusalem while in Gaza, roughly 50 miles away, there were deadly clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians.

Meanwhile, this week marks the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, or "catastrophe" in Arabic, which commemorates Palestinian displacement following the Israeli declaration of independence in 1948.
