India selfish for refusing to play Day-Night Test

Virat Kohli’s Indian cricket team have refused to play a Day Night Test against Australia in Adelaide as they aim to win a series Down Under for the first time ever

Waugh, who played 128 Tests and 244 one-dayers for Australia, has been a selector since 2014, focusing mostly on Twenty20s but also providing input on the one-day worldwide and Test teams. Even though the Indian Cricket Team is dynamic and ranked as the top-most teams in the world, but history suggests that the BCCI bosses have not been dynamic at all.

CA CEO James Sutherland too had tried to convince the BCCI to play the Day-Night Test besides saying that the home team should have the right to schedule matches "as it sees fit".

Some also feel that India's refusal to play a day and night Test is because they are scared they might not register a whitewash over Australia, given that the hosts have won all their pink-ball Tests so far and have looked dominant.

Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating, who argued, "Always back self-interest because you know it's a goer".

Former Australian batsman Mark Waugh has slammed the Indian cricket team for its refusal to play Day-Night Test cricket, calling it a hindrance to future of the format and labelling the decision "selfish". "For me that's a concern".

"Their team is pretty well suited to day-night cricket, theyve got a string of fast bowlers, so they dont just rely on the spinners, and their batsman are technically very good as well".

Cricket Australia were hoping to line up a day-night match for the first Test in Adelaide though they were flatly denied by the BCCI.

India have declined to play their maiden day-night test against Australia, leaving the December 6-10 series-opener in Adelaide a day match, and remain the lone frontline team not to have featured in one.

Meanwhile, Waugh lauded Ireland for giving Pakistan a run for their money in their Test debut. Ireland have just made their Test debut and might make their pink-ball debut soon as well. "The depth of Irish cricket is going to be key there".
