"The views espoused by Free2Be, nor the extension of a grant to the program, do not represent Governor Ivey's personal views and simply represent a requirement and demand from the federal government", the statement concludes".
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) lashed out at state Rep. Patricia Todd (D) on Wednesday after the Democratic lawmaker suggested that the governor is hiding her sexual orientation.
The governor spokesperson has denied these claims and today WDHN spoke to republicans at the Republican Women of Coffee County meeting on their opinion to this claim.
"I'm for Ms. Ivey", said Enterprise resident Leamon Lee. "Whatever she tell you is what you get and what you see is what you get and if you don't like her then you need to go look in the mirror and you'll see your problem". It's a bald faced lie. Ivey, who became governor on April 10, 2017, after Robert Bentley resigned, is seeking a full term in office and she has three opponents for the GOP nomination. "And I'm not gonna let them get away with it". The Executive Director of the organization, Alex Smith, stated, "Scott Dawson is clearly desperate for attention in the late stages of the made the unfortunate choice to use LGBTQ Alabamians as a political punching bag".
"Don't start throwing bricks at my window when yours is already cracked", Todd said at one point in the marriage fight as it wound through the courts.
Todd, pictured above, made the comments on Facebook and Twitter, posting the same message on each platform, calling for someone to "out her for God's sake", adding that she is "sick of closeted elected officials".
Archibald points out that Todd was responding to the governor's condemnation of an LGBT nonprofit called Free2Be that acted as a community center for LGBT people, combating violence and offering someone to talk with. It appears to have since closed.
"I certainly don't agree with the agenda or the values of that organization", said Ivey, according to AL.com.
Ivey, who was attending a chamber of commerce event in Tuscaloosa, was asked by media if she was upset about Dawson's accusations.
That didn't sit well with Todd. I have heard for years that she is gay and moved her girlfriend out of her house when she became Gov.

District 4 incumbent Grady McCrickard and challenger Vicki Mayes are also facing each other on the Republican ballot. But turnout is expected to be light for the Tuesday, May 22 Democratic Primary run-off election.
