Goodbye To Google Play Music, Hello To New YouTube Music Service

YouTube Music officially available for users

As you'd expect from the world's biggest video site, YouTube Music has more of a focus on music video than its competitors - but at the same time, it's also created to function as a pure audio service when the user desires.

Interestingly, since last few years, Google has been trying to acquire Spotify, but their efforts haven't borne fruit yet. Now, the tech giant has officially announced YouTube Music.

Albeit, powered with some extra punch as well.

Existing YouTube Red members will be able to access YouTube Premium with no price increase. It will also be heading to Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

In terms of original series theme, which HBO and Netflix have used to the max, YouTube Premium talks about Cobra Kai, a Karate Kid saga, which is YouTube's original series.

No mention of India or any other Asian countries here, which means India and Asia isn't YouTube's focus as of now. In 2014, it followed up with Music Key, offering subscribers ad-free music videos, but a lack of interest saw Music Key succeeded by YouTube Redin 2015. It said the app's home screen lets you scroll through lots of recommended music and playlists, including "individualized selections of new releases, a My Mixtape personalized playlist, collections similar to an artist you've been listening to a lot lately, a selection called Throwback Jams, before you get to recommended music videos and professional clips of live performances".

YouTube remains the biggest video site on the internet, with over 1.8 billion accounts watching each month.

Although YouTube Music was part of Youtube Red before, now, it is now being offered as a standalone service. CNet reported that the company's YouTube Red will be renamed to YouTube Premium, and will bundle YouTube Music with ad-free original shows for $12 ( R150.72) a month.

Separately on Thursday, YouTube also said it would revamp YouTube Red, the paid version of YouTube that comes with original programming, to include YouTube Music at an additional price of $2.

YouTube Music has a free ad-supported version, along with a $9.99 ad-free version. In addition, it will have personalized playlist based on the user's YouTube history.

We will keep you updated, as we receive more details.
