Glowing Sunset Follows Severe Storms in CT

Power crews continue to work on restoration amid the severe storm damage

Authorities say residents and drivers should avoid going near downed or sagging power lines, and staying off the roads will help crews get done more quickly. "As soon as we stood up, it hit us".

Her home was OK, but some of her neighbors saw a tremendous amount of damage. Almost every road in town was impacted.

Dayle Knapp, of Knapp Tree Inc., said his tree removal crews couldn't clear the streets until utility workers take care of the wires. Working alongside Eversource lineworkers from MA and New Hampshire, crews have restored power to more than 71,000 customers since the storm hit.

"The fierce winds we experienced caused significant damage to the electric system and left many communities devastated", said Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Mike Hayhurst. The company is advising customers in the hardest hit areas near Danbury and Newtown that they may be without power for multiple days. The high school is open as an emergency shelter and charging station.
