While Apple is gearing up to launch its 2018 iPhone lineup, reports suggest that Apple might offer a new type of charger with the upcoming iPhones that can charge faster and connect to Macbooks as well.
Both the iPhone 8 and X support fast charging, but the chargers they now come packed with aren't able to take advantage of this capability. A report by a website called ChargerLab states that the next Apple iPhones will ship with an 18-watt USB Type-C Lightning fast charger.
USB-C delivers power faster than the USB-A configuration Apple has traditionally used. At least for the devices that are being announced later this year. ChargerLabsays that the new brick will push 18Watts - more than three times higher than the current 5Watt charger found in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X box. It was previously reported that Apple could open up the standard for fast charging and allow its MFi partners to start manufacturing compatible cables sometime in 2019.
For those unfamiliar with the previous rumor, it basically said that Apple would bundle 18W USB-C fast chargers with the 2018 iPhones. The availability of the USB Type-C input will enable fast charging - as fast as 50 percent of charge in about 30 minutes - and will be complemented with a USB Type-C to Lightning cable.
The LCD model is said to be priced in the $799 price segment, and reports of new colours suggest that Apple might be working on differentiating the designs of the LCD model from the other two OLED models.
