Disappointed with the response of the district administration as well as the state government to Hindutva outfits disrupting namaz at several public places on Friday, the Muslim community has made a decision to hold a meeting on Sunday to discuss their future course of action.
The Samiti said Muslims should not offer namaz in public places as it causes inconvenience to others.
Under the aegis of Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, members of theVishwa Hindu Parishad, Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Kranti Dal, Swadeshi Jagran Manch, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran Manch, Bharat Bachao Abhiyan and Gurugram Sanskritik Gaurav Samiti arrived at several spots to disrupt the Friday prayers.
Controversy erupted two weeks ago when some locals objected to the namaaz, alleging that some people offering prayers were shooed away by six local youths with chants slogans like "Jai Shri Ram" and "Radhe Radhe" to disrupt the namaz. A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. On its basis, the youths were arrested, but bailed out later. Sube Singh Bohra, former Wazirabad village headman who is at the forefront of the opposition to namaz at open spaces, declared CM Manohar Lal Khattar will be exclusively responsible "if any untoward incident takes place" in the days to come. The outfits also called for a ban on reading namaz in the open in Gurugram. "So we cancelled the meeting", said one of the organisers of prayer meeting.
Gurgaon: Extremists associated with Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti forcibly stopped Muslims from offering afternoon prayers this Friday at as many as 10 places in Haryana. Chander Shekhar Khare, administrator of the Haryana Urban Development Authority, however, said, "The notice is part of a bigger scheme to protect our land from encroachment and reclaim it". So we took things in our hands.
There are 22 mosques in Gurugram and about 106 open spaces where namaz is offered.
"No major action has been taken on our memorandum submitted to the authorities recently, but the installation of the board in Wazirabad village is a victory for us", said Rajeev Mittal, coordinator, Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Kranti Dal.
