EA announces Anthem release window

Beyond just individual games, we try to create entire worlds that players can really live in, which span many games and media, as well as fan-created work like art, fiction, and cosplay.

Anthem, BioWare's ambitious upcoming shooter, will release in March 2019.

Although it won't be seen in public until E3 next month the game is widely believed to be EA's answer to Destiny, with Mass Effect developer BioWare now dedicating nearly all their resources to getting it ready in time. The news was announced on EA's website after Battlefield 1 fans discovered an Easter egg in the game that was a message written in Morse code that revealed "Battlefield will never be the same" along with the May 23 date.

The rest of EA's pitch to investors was also full of interesting details, including a combined sales figure for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 of 103 million at the end of a year ago. The next big game from EA and Bioware definitely looks like it's been set in the Destiny mould - with a focus on long-term appeal and regular content drops. Early on, we see our main character lifting off and zipping through a gob-smackingly detailed jungle, rich in flora and fauna, before scooting through ruins and then dropping down into the depths of a flooded ravine.

To ensure we stay on course, we've updated our mission statement at BioWare to something that we believe is true of our best games, and must continue to be true of future BioWare games-even as we take on new technologies and gameplay innovations. "And our games must be created to continue delivering new stories and experiences, in an ongoing relationship with players in the worlds we're evolving together". The first (and so far only) footage of Anthem showed a scripted, FPS mode, followed by some tasty third-person coop action.

BioWare's Brennon Holmes was quick to reply. The first is that it is a new intellectual property that could either sink or swim.

It's nice to know that Bioware is keeping its finger on the community's pulse like this and responding where it feels it needs to.

Hudson didn't elaborate on exactly how Anthem will tackle the issue, but did tease that BioWare will be "sharing details on how it works very soon".
