BSNL rolls out Rs 118 prepaid plan to take on Reliance Jio

BSNL takes on Reliance Jio with Rs 118 plan, offers unlimited voice calls and 1GB data

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) in the war tariff has once again launched a new prepaid plan of Rs 118. The pack comes with a validity of 28 days. It indeed makes sense for the operator as most of the prepaid subscribers on the unlimited packs aren't able to cross their daily data limits, while the subscribers using other packs often exceed the given quota and thus buy new top-ups to meet their usage. The introduction of this pack is a fine-drawn attempt to take on Reliance Jio's Rs. 98 recharge pack that provides nearly similar incentives.

In comparison, Reliance Jio has a prepaid plan priced at Rs 98 which offers unlimited local and national voice calls, and 2GB 4G data, throughout the validity of 28 days. The BSNL signature tune gets activated automatically for free, once the recharge is done. BSNL will charge for any other PRBT tune, if the customer wishes to customise it.

This Rs. 118 BSNL pack is available in many circles including Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, and more. The validity is same for all the effective circles. Subscribers with existing unlimited packs have been upgraded with the post FUP data access at 128Kbps. The biggest reason why Jio's plan trumps BSNL's offer is the 4G internet connection by the former and 3G browsing and downloads by the latter. However, users can also change the tune as per their desired one, but there will be additional charges included for changing the tune.

Airtel has recently revamped its Rs 149 plan to offer 1GB per day bundled with unlimited calls and SMS benefits. The "unlimited" calls are, however, limited to 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week.

Other telecom companies like Airtel and Idea Cellular are also offering some similar plans of Rs 99 and Rs 109. This means that if you've recharged your prepaid account with a data-only pack or a usual unlimited pack that offers a certain amount of data on a monthly basis, you will be charged for each KB consumed post the given data limit. The plan also offers 300 local and national SMS, and complimentary subscription to Jio suite of apps.
