Franck Ribery has signed a new one-year deal with Bayern Munich, though the man himself originally jumped the gun on the official announcement.

Franck Ribery has signed a one-year extension to his contract at Bayern Munich which will keep him at the club until 2019.

Ribery is out-of-contract in the summer, and was widely expected to leave the German champions, but has opted to remain in Munich for what will be his 12th year with the club.

Ribery, 35, joined Bayern from Marseille in 2007, for a then club-record €25m (R374m) fee and has since won 21 major titles over the past 11 seasons.

"We're very pleased that Franck is staying with us", Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said in a statement.

"This season Franck has proved once again in the Bundesliga as well as in the Champions League and the DFB Cup outstanding achievements he is capable of and what a great quality he has".

On-loan FC Bayern Munchen star James Rodriguez is hungry to avenge their Champions League semifinal loss to parent club Real Madrid, which was sealed in midweek.
