As Union Minister Ananth Kumar accused the Congress party of disrupting parliamentary proceedings, former Congress party president and veteran leader Sonia Gandhi blamed the government and its allies for the parliamentary delays.
The protest came after MPs of the ruling NDA yesterday chose to forego their salaries for the 23 days of the ongoing Budget Session when Parliament did not function because of protests by the Congress and other political parties.
Kumar also said that the entire country was watching Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi (Congress President), the Congress and their associates. DMK's Siva said the logjam in Parliament is created by the government and it should be solved by the government, a view echoed by Azad. "He (Kumar) even accused Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for the disruption in the House by naming them".
"Congress is not letting the house run and just into drama outside at the (Mahatma) Gandhi statue", Kumar said. Congress indulges in divisive, negative politics.
While TDP, which left the NDA last month demanding special category status for Andhra Pradesh, joined the joint Opposition protest, YSR Congress and AIADMK conducted separate protests.
The Congress is "extremely frustrated and intolerant" about the mandate given by people to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and (present Prime Minister) Narendra Modi in 2014, he said.
The second-leg of the Budget Session of Parliament 2018 witnessed a record wastage of 23 days, due to repeated protests and adjournments.
